Privacy Policy

Effective August 1, 2026

Mukhaye respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Portland Rose, LLC, doing business as Mukhaye (“Mukhaye,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use mukhaye.com, the Mukhaye wedding directory, related subdomains, newsletters, forms, digital products, and other services that link to this Policy (collectively, the “Services”).

This Policy applies to information handled through the Services. It does not apply to a third party’s website, app, product, or service, even when linked from Mukhaye.

Who Controls Your Information

Portland Rose, LLC, doing business as Mukhaye, is the controller of personal information covered by this Policy. Questions and privacy requests may be sent to privacy@mukhaye.com.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Newsletter information. Your email address, name if requested, subscription preferences, and engagement with our emails.
  • Contact and partnership information. Your name, email address, company or brand, subject, message, campaign details, and any other information you choose to provide.
  • Contributor and pitch information. Your name, contact details, biography, category, pitch, writing samples or links, and related correspondence.
  • Wedding directory and vendor information. Business and representative contact details, listing content, services, locations, pricing, photographs, account or claim-verification information, and requests to correct or remove a listing.
  • Purchase and transaction information. Contact and billing details, the products or services purchased, amount, date, payment status, and related communications. Payment providers process payment-card information on our behalf; we generally do not receive your full card number.
  • Submissions. Comments, reviews, photographs, real-wedding materials, survey responses, or other content you submit if those features are offered.

Information collected automatically

When you use the Services, we and our technology providers may automatically collect:

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it, such as city, region, or country, but not precise GPS location;
  • device identifiers, browser type, operating system, screen size, language, and similar technical details;
  • pages viewed, links clicked, searches, referring pages, dates and times, session duration, and navigation paths;
  • interactions with newsletters and advertising, including whether an email was opened or a link was clicked; and
  • cookie identifiers, consent choices, advertising identifiers, and information used to identify returning browsers or prevent duplicate event reporting.

Information from other sources

We may receive information from analytics, advertising, social media, payment, email, security, and hosting providers; from business partners; and from publicly available sources. The wedding directory may include business information gathered from vendor websites, social profiles, public registries, published directories, or information supplied by the vendor or its representative. If a listing identifies an individual, that information remains subject to applicable privacy law.

Sensitive information

Please do not send sensitive personal information through general contact, pitch, review, or partnership forms unless we specifically request it and explain why it is needed. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

How We Use Information

We may use personal information to:

  • provide, operate, maintain, personalize, and improve the Services;
  • deliver the Thursday Letter and other communications you request;
  • respond to enquiries, evaluate contributor pitches, and manage brand partnerships;
  • create, verify, update, feature, or remove wedding directory listings;
  • process purchases, deliver digital products or vendor services, maintain transaction records, and provide customer support;
  • measure readership, content performance, campaigns, and advertising;
  • select and display advertising or sponsored content and, where permitted and consented to, support interest-based advertising;
  • protect the Services, detect fraud or abuse, enforce our Terms, and preserve the safety and integrity of our systems;
  • comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; and
  • carry out another purpose explained when information is collected, with consent where required.

Legal Bases for Processing

Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on one or more of the following:

  • Consent. For example, when you subscribe to a newsletter or allow non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.
  • Contract. To provide a product or service you request, process a transaction, or take steps before entering into an agreement with you.
  • Legitimate interests. To operate and improve Mukhaye, understand readership, respond to business enquiries, maintain a useful directory, protect our Services, and pursue ordinary commercial activities, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation. To meet tax, accounting, consumer-protection, privacy, and other legal requirements.

Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising

Cookies and similar technologies help the Services function, remember choices, measure use, and support advertising. We use these categories:

  • Essential. Needed for security, consent management, network delivery, and basic operation. These cannot be switched off through our consent tool.
  • Analytics. Used to understand how readers navigate and engage with Mukhaye. We currently use Google Analytics 4.
  • Advertising. Used to measure campaigns and, where enabled, help deliver relevant advertisements. We currently use Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API.
  • Functional. Used to remember non-essential choices or enable optional features, if offered.

Non-essential cookies and similar technologies are used only after consent where required. You can accept or reject them through the cookie banner and revisit your choice through the site’s cookie-preferences control. Browser settings may also block or delete cookies, but doing so can affect functionality.

Google and Meta handle information under their own privacy terms. The Meta Conversions API may transmit limited event data from our server, such as the page URL, time, IP address, browser information, and an event identifier used to prevent duplicate reporting. We do not intentionally send form contents, payment-card details, or sensitive information to advertising platforms.

How We Disclose Information

We may disclose personal information to:

  • Service providers. Companies that support hosting, security, analytics, advertising, email delivery, forms, payments, cloud storage, customer support, professional advice, and other operations. They may use information only as permitted by their agreements and applicable law.
  • Business and editorial partners. Partners involved in a campaign, event, directory service, editorial project, or transaction, when needed to fulfil your request or with notice or consent.
  • Public audiences. Information you choose to make public through a vendor listing, comment, review, real-wedding feature, or other public submission.
  • Authorities and protected parties. Government, courts, law enforcement, regulators, rights holders, or others when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or enforce an agreement.
  • Corporate transaction participants. Actual or prospective buyers, investors, lenders, advisers, or successors in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, insolvency, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising

We do not sell personal information for money. When you consent to advertising technologies, identifiers and internet or network activity may be disclosed to Meta and similar partners for advertising measurement or interest-based advertising. Some U.S. privacy laws may define that activity as “sharing,” “sale,” or “targeted advertising,” even when no money changes hands.

You may opt out by selecting Essential Only or disabling advertising in the site’s cookie-preferences control. Where required by law and supported by our systems, we also treat a recognized browser-based opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control, as a request to opt out for that browser. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of anyone under 16.

Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide Services, preserve business and transaction records, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. The period depends on the type of information, the relationship, legal requirements, and technical needs.

Newsletter data is generally kept until you unsubscribe, after which we may retain limited suppression information to respect your choice. Transaction and vendor-service records may be kept for the period required by tax, accounting, and consumer laws. Google Analytics data is currently configured for a 14-month retention period. Backups and security records may remain for a limited additional period before deletion or de-identification.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You should use care when sending information online and notify us if you believe your interaction with Mukhaye is no longer secure.

International Data Transfers

Mukhaye serves readers across Africa and the African diaspora. We and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries whose laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions, contractual protections, or another lawful transfer mechanism. You may contact us for more information about applicable safeguards.

Your Privacy Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have the right to:

  • access or obtain a copy of personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • request deletion of information;
  • restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
  • receive information you provided in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent;
  • opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising where applicable;
  • appeal our decision on a privacy request where local law provides that right; and
  • complain to the privacy or data-protection authority where you live.

To make a request, email privacy@mukhaye.com and describe the right you wish to exercise. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and authority. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right and will respond within the period required by applicable law.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message. You may still receive non-promotional messages about a transaction, request, or ongoing business relationship.

Additional Notice for U.S. State Residents

In the preceding 12 months, we may have collected the categories described above, including identifiers; customer and transaction records; commercial information; internet or electronic-network activity; approximate geolocation; professional or employment-related information supplied in pitches or partnership enquiries; user-provided content; and inferences about likely interests based on site activity. We collect these categories from you, your device, service providers, partners, and public sources and use and disclose them for the purposes described in this Policy.

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require a separate right to limit under California law. We do not offer financial incentives for personal information. If a state privacy law applies to our activities, residents may exercise the applicable rights described in the prior section, including any right to opt out of sale, sharing, profiling, or targeted advertising.

Children’s Privacy

The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Third-Party Links and Services

Mukhaye links to brands, retailers, travel providers, wedding vendors, social platforms, and other third parties. Their privacy practices are governed by their own notices. We encourage you to review those notices before providing personal information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our Services, technology, or legal obligations. We will post the revised Policy and update the effective date. If required, we will provide additional notice or seek consent before a material change takes effect.
